LB Thapa has been regularly contributing articles to the English dailies and weeklies of Kathmandu from his hometown Pokhara for the past several years. Most of this writes-up have been about Pokhara, popularly known as the lake city of Nepal, and its social cultural and tourist activates.
Recently this hardworking Pokhara based journalist has come up with a book-The Pokhara Valley-when the country is all set to mark the Nepal Tourism Year 2011. The timing of the publication of the book and the information included in it will surely be a good help to make the mega event a success.
Although author Thapa has termed this book a traveler’s guide, it is more than that as it provides precise information about everything in Pokhara ranging from its natural beauty to the people and their cultures and the great warriors born in the valley. Divided into five main chapters and several short sub-chapters, the book is an encyclopedia of the beautiful valley. From its history to geography to the recent information technology, which is now in use in the valley, are incorporated in his book.
The first chapter divided into 34 small sub-chapters gives information about the valley including its climatic condition, transportation services, media, people and all. The second chapter divided into 49 small sub chapters’ deals with all the tourist sites of the valley and the trekking routes to and form Pokhara. The third chapter is about the major caves of the Pokhara valley. In this chapter, the author gives not only information about the caves but also the methods to explore the challenging caves of the valley.
An experienced caves explorer,. Thapa has advised all dos and don’ts while visiting the caves. The fourth chapter deals with festivals and tribal cultures while the fifth is about museums, temples and monasteries located in the valley. Thapa also includes a brief introduction to the poplar singers and brave warriors while hailed from Pokhara in the book. As mentioned above, the book consists of all information about the valley and is highly useful for both domestic and international tourist who can read in English. Anyone who has bather book can easily mange to reach Pokhara and have full enjoyment of the valley without seeking help from the guides.
The appendices of the book include information about the halts, restaurants, rafting, trekking and transportation services, which will case. the Pokhara, bound visitors to have all the required services with a single phone call.
